There is no one rule for the whole country.
Paid parking zones are set locally. The day and time shown on the street sign or parking meter are what matter — not simply whether the city is large or small.
Weekend parking in 8 major Polish cities
This is the tourist shortcut for ordinary municipal street-parking zones. Always check the exact zone on the sign or in the app — several cities have stricter central zones.
| City | Saturday | Sunday | What a tourist should know |
|---|---|---|---|
| Warsaw | Free | Free | Standard SPPN charges Mon–Fri 08:00–20:00. |
| Kraków | Paid | Depends | All zones Sat 09:00–22:00. On Sunday, central subzone A is usually paid 09:00–22:00; B/C are free. Trading Sundays and statutory holidays are free. |
| Wrocław | Depends | Depends | Central ŚSPP: paid daily 09:00–20:00. Regular SPP: Mon–Fri 09:00–18:00, so weekends are free. |
| Poznań | Depends | Free | Central ŚSPP Centrum/Jeżyce: Saturday paid 08:00–20:00. Regular SPP is free Saturday. Sunday is free. |
| Gdańsk | Depends | Depends | Red downtown ŚSPP: paid daily 09:00–20:00. Regular blue/green SPP sectors are generally weekday-only. |
| Sopot | Depends | Depends | Red central ŚSPP: paid daily (09:00–22:00 Apr–Sep; 09:00–20:00 Oct–Mar, with holiday exceptions). Blue SPP: weekdays only. |
| Gdynia | Depends | Depends | Central ŚSPP: paid daily 08:00–20:00. Regular SPP: Mon–Fri 08:00–18:00. |
| Łódź | Free | Free | Municipal SPP charges Mon–Fri 07:00–19:00. |
Best rule: never assume Saturday or Sunday is free. Central tourist zones are often stricter than the rest of the same city.
Do not use “big city = paid on weekends” as a rule.
Warsaw is a perfect counterexample. Smaller cities may have free weekends, but some tourist centres or downtown zones can charge on Saturdays or Sundays. Always read the parking sign or check the zone in the app.
Fastest way to check
- Look at the paid-parking sign and parking meter.
- Check the days and hours — pon.–pt. means Monday–Friday; pon.–niedz. means Monday–Sunday.
- If using moBILET/SkyCash/etc., confirm the exact city zone before starting the session.
