What to Eat in WARS on Polish Trains
Your first proper Polish meal can be on the train. If your PKP Intercity train has WARS service, you can sit down to żurek, pierogi or a schabowy before you even reach your destination.

Don’t automatically buy a sandwich at the station.
If your train has a WARS restaurant or bistro car, it can be a surprisingly good introduction to everyday Polish food. These are not just “tourist dishes” — Polish passengers order them too.
What is WARS?
WARS is the catering company you see on many PKP Intercity trains. Depending on the train, service can mean a restaurant car, bistro or another form of onboard catering. Not every train has the same offer, so always check your specific connection.
Three Polish dishes worth ordering
2026 menu prices: in the WARS spring–summer 2026 IC menu we checked, żurek was 18 PLN, pierogi 32 PLN and kotlet schabowy 44 PLN. Menus and prices change seasonally and can vary by service.
Do Poles really eat this on the train?
Yes. PKP Intercity reported that in 2025 WARS passengers bought about 302,000 schabowy portions, 266,000 żurek soups and 227,000 portions of pierogi. That is why we like this experience for visitors: you are not ordering a staged “Polish tasting menu”; you are eating the same comfort food many local passengers choose.
Beer — and sometimes Polish cider
WARS menus also include alcoholic drinks on some services. The current spring–summer 2026 menu includes Polish beer. Polish cider appears seasonally — for example Miłosławski cider was offered in the 2025/26 winter menu — so check the current drinks list rather than assuming it will always be available.
Can WARS bring food to your seat?
Sometimes, yes. With mWARS, on supported trains you can select your connection, choose food and enter your carriage and seat number. The order can then be delivered to your place — useful when you are travelling with luggage or children.
Do all PKP Intercity trains have WARS?
No. This is the important caveat. WARS service depends on the train and route. Some trains have a restaurant or bistro car; others do not. Treat WARS as a bonus to look for, not something guaranteed on every Polish train.
