Concession section. You enter through toll infrastructure and pay according to the distance and vehicle category.
Are There Toll Roads in Poland?
Yes — but the system is much less simple than “all motorways are paid”. Here is the version a tourist in a normal passenger car actually needs.
SHORT ANSWER
Yes, Poland has toll motorways — but many roads are free for ordinary cars.
The confusing part is that some motorway sections are state-managed and free for light vehicles, while several concession motorway sections still charge passenger cars.
For an ordinary passenger car up to 3.5 tonnes, e‑TOLL is not a universal motorway-payment app. The electronic e‑TOLL obligation primarily concerns vehicles or combinations above 3.5 tonnes and buses.
THE SIMPLE VERSION
Main toll sections a tourist may encounter
Concession motorway. On the Nowy Tomyśl–Konin part, the 2026 passenger-car tariff is charged per 50 km segment.
Two toll plazas. From 1 April 2026 a two-axle passenger car pays PLN 18 at each plaza — PLN 36 for the whole concession section.
Tolls for light vehicles on this state-managed section were abolished in 2023.
Likewise toll-free for light vehicles on the state-managed section.
Weight matters. If the vehicle or vehicle combination exceeds 3.5 tonnes, e‑TOLL rules can apply. A legal change takes effect on 21 September 2026 for certain light vehicles with trailers, so check the official e‑TOLL site before travelling.
